Art of Creation

2022 Semester 1 - Fall/Winter

This exhibition casts a light on the beauty of the overlooked: the sketches, poetry, and paintings created as references, as early drafts. These works are usually kept in between notebook pages, lost among portfolio folders. We would like to challenge the beauty of perfection with the raw authenticity of the original idea. We have collected sketches from a variety of artists: some preliminary drafts, some anatomical sketches, some doodles.

Karina Satoskar — Distant Memories

The first photo is from the initial stages of my project Distant Memories. While it represented the original idea, as I shot, my vision for the project changed and this photo was no longer as successful. I created a similar picture of my sister under a tree, which I found to be more effective. The rest of the images were made for the same body of work, and capture a dreamy feel of childhood memories.
